A sensational impersonation scandal surrounding Shakespeare, in which everything is sparked by a boy’s lie, "William and William’s Williams" is a musical based on the real-life “Ireland Shakespeare forgeries” that took place in London in the 18th century. Selected for major creative theater funding programs in Korea and later staged in licensed productions in Japan, it has been recognized for its artistic value.
Samuel is a father hungry for fame, and his son Henry desperately seeks his father’s approval. What begins as Henry forging Shakespeare’s signature grows even bolder with his father’s delight, ultimately escalating into a sensational scandal when they unveil a “new play” by Shakespeare to the world.
Through the characters’ conflicting testimonies, the work explores the thin line between truth and lies, and the human desire to be recognized by others. By portraying the intellectuals who were infatuated with the forgeries, it also reflects on a timeless reality—society’s indifference to truth and fascination with scandal. The three actors accompanied by a live trio performance of piano, violin, and cello instruments powerfully fills the 100-minute stage with intensity.
