A nonverbal performance transcends language barriers, with dance being one of its most representative forms. “Step It Up” is a nonverbal performance that uses dance to bridge generations and share stories of dreams and hope, making it an ideal show for audiences of all generations.
During his work, an elderly cobbler, who tediously repairs worn-out shoes, encounters the laughter, tears, love, and farewells embedded within them, including the challenges of a first day at work, the thrill of new encounters, choices with regret, and journeys, in search of hope. Following the footprints of life etched in each pair, memories come alive once more through dance.
“Step It Up” unfolds through six episodes inspired by different pairs of shoes, offering audiences a rich variety of experiences. Visual media art brings each theme vividly to life, while different dance styles in every episode immerse spectators deeper into the performance. From K-pop dance and hip-hop loved by younger audiences, to locking and waacking familiar to avid dancers, and even traditional Korean dance, the show converges an array of genres on a single stage.
